17. Loch Orasay
The islands in this loch support remnants of woodland which was once much more wide spread. Most of the trees are Willows and Rowans with some Aspen and Birch. Only Eilean Mor is burned and grazed and this is virtually treeless. One of the islands in the Southeast of the loch is a crannog, an ancient man made islet. Greylag geese breed here and large numbers of gulls roost on the far side of the Loch. This is one of the few lochs in the Western Isles where a rare fish, the Artic Charr, occurs.
