The Wildlife Map of the Hebrides
20. North Harris Hills
North Harris is a splendid example of a landscape moulded by glaciation. The Clisham is the highest mountain in the Outer Hebrides at 799m (2622 feet.) The hills to the west offer arguably even greater spectacle, with their rounded summits, plunging corries and U shaped glens beneath, lined with debris left by the retreating glaciers. This area offers a good chance of seeing a golden eagle- remember to look at the sky directly above you as well as the hills. Salmon may be seen leaping the falls near Amhuinsuidhe Castle.
