The Wildlife Map of the Hebrides

35. Loch Eynort

The trees and shrubs thriving at the end of the road have been planted but there are two other small woods further along the loch shore, one at the Meall Mor dominated by birch and the other a mixed wood in the ravine of Allt Volagir. Both are the nearest thing to the native woodland which was once widely distributed in the Hebrides. Woodland flowers you might come across here include Angelica, Wild Hyacinth, Wood Sorrel, Wood Sage and Garlic. Trees and shrubs include most of the native species of the Western Isles- Birch, Rowan, Aspen, Willows, Hazel, Honeysuckle and Ivy and a single Ash.
