The Wildlife Map of the Hebrides

12. Achmore

An excellent panorama over the moorlands of Southern Lewis and the hills of Uig and Harris can be viewed from the roadside, though even better views can be obtained from the high grounds of Eitseal to the North. The blanket bogs demonstrate fine pool systems, but these areas can be dangerous to walk through. Loch Achmore has Teal, Tufted Duck, Golden Eye and Pochard whilst the moors have Golden Plover and Dunlin.
